Where the money is

This page exists so that nothing about how this site operates has to be inferred.

Ownership

Gum & Canvas is owned and published by Red Key Digital, a web and marketing agency based in Melbourne. It is an independent publication rather than a client site, and it is funded by the agency.

Commercial relationships

Red Key Digital provides web and marketing services to some of the suppliers linked from this site. Those are commercial relationships and they are disclosed here in full:

  • Campaquip — Barbecues and camp cooking, including the Weber Q range, charcoal and gas. Red Key Digital client.
  • All Bars — Australian-made bull bars, nudge bars, roof and cab-over racks, and cargo barriers. Red Key Digital client.

How links are placed

A link to any of the above appears only inside a piece where a reader would reasonably be looking for a supplier, and only where the supplier actually sells the thing being discussed. There are no sidebar placements, no footer link blocks and no links inserted into unrelated entries.

We are not paid per click or per sale by these suppliers, and no supplier reviews or approves an entry before it is published.

Being linked here is not an endorsement that a product is the best available. Where an entry recommends a category of gear, it says what to look for, and the reader is expected to shop on that basis.

Images

Photographs are used under licences that permit commercial use, sourced through Openverse and Wikimedia Commons. Where a licence requires attribution, the credit and the licence appear beneath the image. Licences that prohibit derivative works are excluded, because cropping to a page layout is a derivative.

We do not use client photography on this site.

Sourcing and accuracy

Entries draw on published land-manager information, official road condition reporting and mapping data. Coordinates are approximate and intended for orientation, not navigation.

Nothing here is a substitute for current advice from the authority managing the land you are travelling on. Road status, fire restrictions, permits and closures change daily, and this site does not track them in real time.

Safety

Several entries describe activities that carry genuine risk, including remote travel, water crossings and vehicle recovery. They are written as background, not as instruction or training, and they assume you will exercise your own judgement about your vehicle, your experience and the conditions in front of you.

Corrections

Errors get fixed and the entry records the change. If something here is wrong, we want to know.
